Q: What is a hillclimb?

A:

A hillclimb is a single car speed event. Entrants compete against the clock over the course, the fastest time being the winner. Oddly enough, a hillclimb doesn't necessarily have to take place on a hill. There are many classes to enter and each class has is split into different sections based on engine capacity. There are also prizes to fastest outright, and depending on the location and event status, there may also be prizes for fastest sedan, fastest lady, best presented etc.

Q: Do I need a special licence?
A: To compete in our hillclimb events you need a CAMS Level 2 Speed Licence (L2S) or higher. Getting an L2S is as easy as filling out a form available form the CAMS website. There are no medical or driving tests required. At the time of writing it costs $88 for 12 months. The licence also covers you with Personal Accident Insurance (for injury to yourself) An L2S allows you to compete in khanacross, motorkhanas hillclimbs and supersprints

Q: What type of car do I need?
A: To join WSCC you dont need to have any car. To run at Huntley Hillclimb you can have any car you like. Almost anything you can think of can, and has, competed at Huntley. Vintage cars, shopping cars, sports cars, racing cars. They all fit in somewhere. Datsun Sunny, Volkswagen kombi it doesnt matter. If you have stolen Michael Schumacher's Ferrari or the next door neighbours Laser, you can run them at Huntley.

Q: Type what?

A:

For the latest descriptions see 2007 Vehicle Regulations. A summary is shown below. Note that our capacity classes for types 5 and SV differ somewhat.

Type 1 & 2 are (usually) Road Registered Vehicles with little or no modification. We run the two together because we cant tell the difference between them and dont want to referee any arguments over what is original and what is not. You cant do a lot here, change exhaust.. few other minor things.

Type 3  "Modified cars including 3J Club Cars as per CAMS manual" The bulk of the cars we get fall into this category. You can change carbs, injection systems, wheels, sway bars. You can also swap engines provided they are from same manufacturer and same configuration.

Type 4 "3D Sports Sedans (as per CAMS manual) &  All Type 1,2,3 or SV cars running on slicks" Moving up into serious stuff. Any engine you like, fiberglass bits, perspex windows...

Type 5 "Open wheelers as defined under 1st Category Racing Cars (as per CAMS Manual) and cars not conforming to Types 1 & 2, 3, 4 & SV"

Type SV Road registered kit cars (Clubmans, cobras, etc.) Limited Compliance Cars and 4WD Turbos

Q: How do I get to Huntley?

A:

From the north...
Heading south down the freeway take the 2nd Dapto exit (Fowlers Rd exit).
Turn right off the exit ramp.
At the end of Fowlers, turn left onto Princes Highway.
Approx 800m up the hill there is a takeaway shop on the right. Turn right just after it. (Avondale Rd)
Follow Avondale until you get to what appears to be the end of it and turn right again. Follow that to bottom of mountain, and you will see us.

From south...
Take Dapto exit, turn left at the end of offramp.
After you go around a right hand bend turn left into Huntley Rd.
Just follow the road out to the bottom of the mountain (it changes to Avondale Rd along the way).

Q: What if I dont have a car?

A:

You dont need to have a car to get enjoyment out of motorsport. You can have just as much fun as an official. Anyone can be an official at an event regardless of how much money they have.
