Huntley Update
Unfortunately no certain details at all. The future of our
Hillclimb venue is in the hands of the Coroner, NSW Police and Wollongong
Council. Until the inquest into an accident last September is complete we wont
have any idea, and I cant tell you when that may be. The police made their
initial submission which was sent back requesting more info. I don’t know how
much info or where it is at presently.
I think the police accident investigation team is happy for us
to proceed if we do a safety upgrade, but the area commander may have other
views. It then remains to be seen if the coroner will accept the advice of
police or go his own way. 50 metres of Armco or tyre barriers will take some
time to construct before that happens. CAMS to date still haven’t issued a
track licence and wont do until after everyone else has signed off. Apprently it
is on a desk at Parramatta waiting. I assume the track will have to be
reinspected again again after any upgrades. We would also have to re-apply to
Wollongong council for the road closure. In the past this hasn’t been a
problem they just take the word of police, but now that we have administrators
instead of corrupt councillors that could change as well. The other stumbling
block is that we have just had a change of area commander so even making contact
to discuss the issues is difficult.
So for now, its all a waiting game.
